Breaking Dawn Is Out

August 2nd, 2008 at 2:19 am by Kaleb Nation

I can’t imagine how long all of you have waited for this day. Though I am a fairly new reader of the books, and haven’t finished the second yet, even I felt enormous anticipation for this day. I stayed up until 2 AM watching the Twilighters.org videocast just to see them get their copies of Breaking Dawn, after watching the entire New York event with Stephenie live on iClips.

The reaction across the country can pretty much be summed up in these videos:

So congratulations to Stephenie for an awesome book release! For those of you who stayed up until midnight around the world, I’d love to hear your Breaking Dawn Release Party stories! Also, if you have Youtube videos of the countdowns, email me with them and I’ll add some as links! Now, everyone go enjoy Breaking Dawn!

I would love to go off and read my copy of breaking dawn… but i don’t get it till monday!!!

*shakes fist at lack of international release date*

    ro.

  4. Rachul

I will send you the videos I had my minions take while I was being trampled to death. But now, I read.

  5. Laura

Lucky for some – I have to wait until Monday for my copy =[. Stupid country. Anyway, the queues look fantastic – the bookshops don’t open in Ireland unless it’s for Harry Potter, as huge as Twilight is.
So the releases weren’t quite around the world, but we’ll get there =]

  6. Laura

    * don’t open “early”, lol. Sorry.

Well it is I got my book at 12:24 AM. It is now 6 AM and I have decided I will try to take a nap before the sun comes up. I really didn’t intend to stay up this late (early?). It just happened. By the way, the midnight release party itself wasn’t the fun part, it was sitting around, hanging out with your twilight friends and talking about the books and your theories for a few hours. Being excited together makes it that much better.

  9. AussiePattinsonLove

I so wish i was there…. i have to wait til monday here! but Ill be at the breaking dawn party. so excited!

  10. Dani

was the first video from Indigo at Yorkdale? cause it it was i was there!!!!

  11. Jana

I started reading at 1:00am and finished at 8:18am. No stops except for a bathroom break! It was amazing!

  12. Samie

well i work night shift at tim hortans, 11pm-7am. We were busy as hell, kept on haveing 2-3 buses at a time lol. and there where only 2 of us. so anyways during the rush i kept on thinking how many mins left till The relase. lol then as 12:00 hit i said aloud “Breaking dawn is now offically out!” and a quit a few ppl are like YES..and told me they are gonna go buy the book first thing the morrining! it was Really funny! and there were some kids and a few adults that said that! hehe

  13. Lex

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m a HUGE Twilight fan… but I was really disappointed. I think Bella stepped out of character (Remember her in the first book? A little shy, never been kissed, thinking holding Edward’s hand is the best thing on Earth?). It all was… weird for me…

    *Hides from fangirls*

  14. Catherine

Wow. Lots of screaming in the first one.

I probably won’t get my hands on the book until at least a few months from now. You won’t be able to see it at my library: it’ll be passed from one person to another without hitting the shelf. ;)

Now I just can’t look at any Twilight forums for a while (not that I do that), lest it be spoiled! :P

  15. Carol

AHHHHH!H!H!H!H!H!!!! I’m about to go and get my copy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good bye. :)

  16. jennifer

there were actually girls that dyed contact lenses for their costumes(food coloring, i don’t think its like safe but oh well)lol the red looked really cool, and the ‘gold’ ones were a pretty cool light brown, one of them (red eyes)was saying it was kind of uncomfterable but the one with gold eyes said evrything was blurry oh well they seemed perfectly happy:) got to get back to reading! only on page 175, i keeping going on twilight sites! ack must get back to reading

  17. shann

I got my book at 12:30 and I just finished it (10:30). I did sleep 5 hours somewhere in there. It was *totally* different than I expected but definitely amazing! (and disturbing in spots too).

  18. Holly

I went here and there was a countdown and everything. I stayed up until 4 am reading and now I’m back up again to FINISH it. lol. Then, MUST SLEEP.

  19. Katie Beth

I CAN’T enjoy Breaking Dawn, because it hasn’t come yet. But it has shipped! I got the Amazon email at 10:16 pm last night.

I did go to the release party, though. Since we had the books ordered on Amazon, my friend and I left at 11:30 as they started lining up, but it was pretty crazy. People dressed in prom clothes everywhere. There were even a couple guys in suits.

They took a poll “by the volume of your voice” on who should get Bella: Edward or Jacob. There were a few calls for Jacob and a lot of boos, but the whole place erupted for Edward.

  20. Noel

It’s not a party story, but it’s a Breaking Dawn story.

I’m a youth librarian in a very small town … just how small?

Before work this morning, I ran to Wal-Mart, the closest place to snag a couple of copies. (Most libraries use Baker and Taylor … we’re odd.)

I walked in: no sign of breathless girls, screaming over their new Stephenie Meyer. In fact, no sign of the new Stephenie Meyer at all. When I asked where I might find Breaking Dawn, the associate gave me a blank stare. “What’s that?”

“A book. A new book that came out today.”

She shrugged and went to inquire of the manager, who went to rummage in the “back,” who finally emerged triumphant with a copy of Breaking Dawn!

“Oh,” I apologized, “I should have told you, I need two copies. They’re for the public library.”

She disappeared again, and a few minutes later appeared with another book. “You’re in luck,” she told me, smiling. “We bought two copies.”

Needless to say, that made me laugh pretty hard inside. Two whole copies for an entire town! :) Lucky me.

  21. Lisbeth

I stayed up all night… but I was at my friend’s birthday party, and pretty much everyone there had never even HEARD of Twilight. Am I lame or what? My sister gets to read t, and then my mom, and then me. *is sad*

  22. Brandi with an "I"

    Hey Everyone!
So my expierence was AMAZING! I have lots of footage and pictures to share on youtube. I am the co-creator/Miss Monday for xXBreakingTwilightXx on YouTube! So check us out!
I had a funny expierence, it involves Chilli’s, Team Jacob, and Some random guy yelling “I hate Jacob Black” then taking off. yeah he better have ran!
    lol
    -B-

  23. Alexa

I was at a band party last night and half the people there left early just to go to the release party. I don’t think the Books-A-Million here in Kokomo had as many people there when Harry Potter came out :] I have to wait until Monday to get the book and I’m very sad about this :/

  24. Sarah

The book sucked. It has the plot of a really cheesy fanfiction. SM went against everything she’s said about Vampires. You could have ginen the characters differnt names and never have been able to tell that they were the characters. Again, IT SUCKED!!! I refuse to accept this book as part of the series. I am planning on burning it after I loan it out to all my friends, just so that they can suffer along with me.

  25. Liz

Um, it was amazing. I loved it. The reaction here in DC was incredible, 600+ people at a Borders in Fairfax, VA. I was not the oldest person there, happily, and the sense of fun and community was great. Plus, I met some other Team Jaspers which was great!
Enjoy the books everyone! Remember, no spoilers on the web till we’ve all gotten a fair chance to read it!

  26. Dany

    Sarah,
I totaly understand your point… So,so,so disapointed over here… I think SM might have some problems with the next concerts…

  27. Court

i dont know how it happened,
but i ended up with four of my friends coming home with me after we got our copies.
    bad idea.
five friends at one in the morning trying to read a book?
    again bad idea.

but sooner or later we were able to calm ourselves down and read.
[one of my friends who is still reading eclipse, went to bed early]

while the rest of us have yet to sleep.

keep up the good work!! :D

  28. Courtney

HAHA, at the Border’s that I went to for mine, there were girls dressed up as the volturi…one even had a cloak, and another one painted on a beard and moustache :D It was fun, but I was with my best friend, and we were numbers 203 and 204…We though it would take a while, so we left and came back at 1am..We were the last people to get the books! They announced the store closing right when we got in there! We were lucky we didn’t wait any longer than we did!

I didn’t wear anything crazy, just a black polka dot top.. I already have vampire eyes (I swear!), so i guess if I was a bit more pale and perfect, I could have passed for a Cullen, haha.

  29. L.

    HECK YES, KALEB.
    I HAVEN’T SLEPT SINCE 10:OO AM YESTERDAY.

    WOOH.

i got my copy at 1:30 this morning.

    i couldn’t stop.

    oh my leh God.

    ON TO PAGE 96.
    D;

    i need to read faster.

  30. Lauren

Woohoo!! I stayed up till 3am reading, which I know most people stayed up a lot later, but I knew I was going to have to wake up early (or so I thought) so I decided to stop then. But then I woke up this morning and I’ve been hiding in my room till like now reading! Haha, my mom thought I was cleaning my room but when she came in to seee if I really was she found me in bed reading Breaking Dawn and with the phone in my hand talking to my friend about a chapter (cus she was on the chapter I had just finished) haha, now I have to go clean………BUT I WANNA READ!!!!! :)

And the Breaking Dawn party was soo much fun! I loved seeing all my friends going crazy when it was 12:01! And we were soooo close to the front! But no one screamed when it was 12:01, well, except me and my friends, lol! But me and one of my friends couldnt stay still with excitment that we ran around Barnes and Noble all night!! And then me and my two friends I brought started reading there while my mom tryed getting a copy for one of her friends! Haha!! :)

  31. Mara-Kate

In my teeny town there was about 25 of us that showed up at midnight just to purchase the book…it was alright nothing crazy the first thing my friend and I did was flip to the back to see if the spoilers were true (which they are) we screamed and swore (in the middle of the book store…oops) but I finished it and I’m a tad disappointed. The context of it was more for her older (twi mom) readers not us twi teens. Don’t let me ruin it for the rest of you tho, still amazing book :) :) :)

  32. Debbie

I didn’t attend any midnight release parties (too old to stay up all night), but I was up at breaking dawn and walked out of the 24 hour Walmart, just as the sun came up. I finished it at 1:30 this afternoon. I like it with reservations. Nothing like I expected though.

  33. Kalah

Holy crap. I stayed up until 2 AM reading the story! I got almost 100 pages into it (yay for me!)…

The party, I didn’t really stick around for. I got there late, around 11:30, just in time to catch the costume contest and to hear snippets of Team Edward bashing Team Jacob in a fierce debate (and vice versa, as well!)

They were selling so many other goodies, but alas, I did not have the money for them. So sad. I wanted the Twilight movie calender so bad… >.< I was the 163rd person to get the book. Our Borders ordered at least 600 copies! *does happy dance*

  34. Molly

I pulled a 27 hour-er from 9 in the morning August 1 to noon today (august 2nd). It took about 2 two liters of Diet Coke, a pack of Trolli Sour Gummi Worms, and an IKEA Chocolate Bar (IKEA Sells chocolate!)!!!

  35. Franki

I just finished Breaking Dawn. I just wanted to let you know that the book was a disappointment. I am a huge fan of the Twilight series, but this book has no place with the other 3.

  36. Naomi

ahahah! the first video is mine! thanks so much for posting it on your site. :D I was wondering how it got so many views in less than a day O.O

  37. Wren

First, I pre-requested the book to the wrong location (forty minutes away), and they couldn’t guarantee me a copy, and I told some friends the wrong location too, so we didn’t get to meet, and my other friend and I waited anxiously for our copies and YAY they still had some by the time our numbers were called.
I also brought my cousin along to Barnes and Noble, and she bought Twilight. Now she’s halfway through the first, and I working steadily through the fourth, and we’re trying to see who’ll finish first, and she wants to return to the bookstore to get the next three.
    YIPEE!
(and BD is great so far, had to take a break to eat, though)

  38. Katie ~

i’m 100 pages in or so and i’m kinda freaked out. yipes.

  39. Corinne!

    I finished the book.
    wowzers.
Just wait til you read it…. that’s all I can say.
I didnt even stop reading to eat at 7 this morning… I carried the book to the kitchen, got three slices of cold, leftover pizza [cold pizza is the best ever] and brought it back up stairs and continued reading.
    Wow.

    Corinne!

  40. Angela

My mom (who never stays up for anything) wanted to go get the book with me, so we were going to go. Then my friend wanted to go too, and my sister. So the four of us piled into the car, drove to the bookstore and waited in line for about an hour.

It was worth the leg pains (I had been walking all day, between the zoo with a friend and babysitting two small children).

I’m almost done with the book so mom can read it.

  41. Alexandra

My Breaking Dawn story is different. me, my sister, my best friend and her mom were waiting outside the bookstore, near the front of the line. We were all really excited. We got stickers, pins, chocolates and we got to do quizzes. There was also a draw to win t-shirts. There was a girl across the street who had just won a t-shirt. She ran across the street with her friend behind her. Then, all of a sudden, at 11:59, right before the book was released, the second girl running across got hit by a car! It was terrible. I was standing right there. It ws not a happy ending to a fun night.

  43. Rachel

I was at the concert series in NYC and it was the coolest thing EVER! Literally the best night of my entire life! Im already half way through the book, though I promised myself I would try not to finish it in one day!

  44. Alexandra

oops. I’m sorry for the double post earlier. It was an accident.

  45. Aishah

    I WISH I WAS THERE!!!!
I love the all the hype and the excitement for the long anlticipating moment for the release of Breaking Dawn.
    Have you ordered your, Kaleb?

I love the all the hype and the excitement for the long anlticipating moment for the release of Breaking Dawn.
Have you ordered yours, Mr. Nation?

  47. Megan

I had a great time last night! It was my first midnight release and me and my friends (there was like 12 of us) all went to a Barnes and Noble. It actually wasn’t that crowded, but we sat in the middle of an aisle and people kept turning around to walk the other way. We read each other’s palms and looked at the symbology of our dreames. It was so much fun. My favorite part of the night, though, was when a voice came over the loud speaker and said, “Would Jasper Cullen please report to the War History class?” It was so random!

  48. Hihi

The party was ROCKIN! I had my wrist “bitten” and I dragged my brother there too so he had his wrist “bitten” too. I heard it was a prom night so I wore my Jabbawockeez shirt with some tight pants. Turns out, there was only one other person dressed really random like me. A girl dressed up as a chicken. Oh and there was this one guy dressed up as Edward Cullen and I have to say, he was HOT.

  49. Hihi

There was a guy dressed up as the volturi!

  50. Krystol

I just needed to gloat a bit to people who would understand (unlike my family). I won the Twilight trivia at the release party I went to last night!!! They called me this morning and said that I won a gift card for the book store. The best part wasn’t the gift card though, it was the lady telling me that I won by a landslide, no one else even came close!!!

  51. Sierra

In response to Sarah: I totally agree with your opinion of the book. Though I’m only 258 pages into it, I already want to run it over with my friends’ mom’s car, then burn it, then proceed to dump it in the ocean. I am going to finish the book though. I just want to know the end… Anyways I am going to write a new ending/ epilogue thing for Eclipse that will end the series in that book… I’m really hoping this book gets better…

(P>S> I will later post saying if I’ve decided to put this new epilogue on the internet and what website it’s on… lol…)

  52. patrice

I stayed up ALL NIGHT reading Breaking Dawn. Now I am re-reading it. So yeah, I don’t think I’ll be getting any sleep soon.

  53. MPA

So I pulled an all nighter to finished it and boy, what a book. I enjoyed 90 % of it, really I finished it wanted even more. I will say that I do NOT think it’s a teen/tween book – as a previous poster mentioned it’s of a vastly more mature nature (and subject matter. Not necessarily just of a sexual nature, but in terms of it’s theme.

Some parts really left me speechless – others made me want to kill myself (as a quick aside, I must note that the quipping between Jake & Rosalie in book 2 was very funny.

I see now why Stephenie was all about saying that SHE loved the book & the ending but that you couldn’t please everyone. Some parts are still making me go “wtf???”

but all in all – I enjoyed it and will def. re-read this week (mostly cause I still need some processing time – it was on a completely different sphere of existence then the other books)

  54. Maggie Mae

I’m not thrilled about this either, In fact the word I’d use is disappointed.

I didn’t think it flowed as well as the first 3 books.

Parts of it felt like it was only PRETENDING to be a young adult novel, and I’ll admit the way some scenes were handled made the books feel superficial somehow.

Also, some parts felt like a total cop-out.

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t like the idea of Nessie. It feels like a betrayl of sorts to the interpretation of the vampire that Stephenie created. And again, it is a cop-out…..

I think I’d have honestly been more okay with the series ending with Eclipse, but I think Breaking Dawn deserves a second, more alert reading before I decide on that for sure.

I’m not going to lie though – since I started reading the serries (a little more than a month ago) I’ve been looking forward to Midnight Sun more than Breaking Dawn anyway.

  55. Maggie Mae

I am more than ready to read the Outtakes for this one. I really hope she posts some

  56. Len

Wow, was BD that bad? I guess you can’t really please everyone.

  57. MPA

ok, this dude has a hysterical recap on youtube

    muwhahahaahaha

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeqtXC5IJwc

  58. Heather

Haha, stayed up until midnight? I just finished it and I haven’t slept or ate or drank at all. What a roller coaster. Hurry up with the books!

  59. Sharry

hated it and it ruined the entire story for me because now i have to think that this is what will become of these characters that i liked soo much. They didnt even seem like themselves and it was cheezy, boring, and sleezy. sorry.

  60. Emily

ahah, same. my mom came downstairs in the morning, and was like “did you stay up all night reading!?!”

my favourite part of the night was when they announced the results for the ballot vote of who bella would end up with.

    156 – edward
    33 – jacob
    5 – jasper
    2 – both
    2 – alice
    1 – emmett is mine.
    XD

i get what people are saying about being disapointed. it felt kind of detatched from the series, almost like fanfiction. i really really want to like it, though. i’ve been reading the series since it first came out.

  61. Ley Ley

I almost won the trivia at my book store. I lost by one question. Haha. But everyone there was uber excited =] And the book is wonderful. You’ll in joy it when you finally get around to it.

  62. Natasha

I honestly can’t say what I think of Breaking Dawn.
    The Nessie thing…????
    …….
Not only is that really strange, but could you think of a stupider name, Bella?
I’m thinking she was only created for Jake to stay connected with Bella.
It really did seem like ALOT fanfiction I’ve read.

I actually really really enjoyed Book 2 in BD! I was a Team Edward all the way and I hated Jake, but he had me cracking up. (Blonde jokes, anyone? xD) I can honestly say that was my favorite part.

  63. Fran

OMFG stayed up till 7 am reading it just finished…
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is the only way i can sum it up. but seriously the name?? i thoguht it was just a hormone thing and she would change it later…

  64. Cali

I didn’t think Breaking Dawn was as good as I was expecting it to be, but it was still very good.

A lot of the plots were definitely unpredictable but some of them felt really repetitive so that was kind of annoying..

And I didn’t like the ending that much. Too cheesy.

But I really like getting some insight into Jacob’s mind. It made me hate him A LOT less.

  65. Amanda

I went to the local Wal-Mart to get my copy at midnight, there were 3 other people there for the book. Was only going to read a few chapters then sleep. At 6am I could no longer hold my eyes open, and slept for about 6 hours. I just finished the book, and I mostly liked it. This book is not for her younger audience. I am not sure my 10 yr old brother will get to read this one soon. I cant wait for Midnight Sun to be released.

  66. Christina

I got mine at midnight!! …well more like 12:45 by the time i got to the front of the line…lol I dont think i’ve ever heard that much screaming, even at concerts XD Then i stayed up all night until i finished it. I haven’t slept at all in over 36 hours… lol!

  67. Elspeth

The Party was great! It was so nice to meet other twilighters, sometimes I feel like I’m the only obsessed person I know personally. I finished the book earlier this afternoon. It was completely satisfying :)

  68. Michelleee

    Sounds fun!
    I would’ve gone to a release party…
..however, i got the book on thursday night at Bj’s ! and so instead of attending a release party anyway for the kick of it, i stayed home and read breaking dawn.
    all day :)

  69. Meghan

My friends and I had our own little “reading party.” lol. I took them to the midnight release party, and we had a blast. Thanks to our awesome skillz at trivia and other contests, we won 9th place in line to get our books! w00t! Then we went back to my house to read them. It took me MUCH longer than I expected to read it: it took me thirteen hours! (That could have been due to the fact that I was dead tired, but oh well…) Afterwards I slept like nobody’s business. However, it was definitely thirteen hours well spent. While the book was so much different than the others, it was still freaking awesome. ^_^

  70. Katie of "Team Twilighter"

    Hey Kaleb and Twilight fans!
Team Twilighter will be posting footage from the various Breaking Dawn Release Parties all week long, starting next week. =] You should definitely check them out!
    <3 Katie Cullen

  71. Becky

it was actually rather depressing to watch those, makes my life seem boring.
My release party: I stayed up til midnight, watching the countdown on stepheniemeyer.com while surfing the fansites, I freaked out with fellow Twilighters on Yahoo Answers who also didn’t go to parties or already had it and were ranting about That Book, and I listened to some Mitch Hansen Band. Then I went to bed, thinking about- well you can probably guess, lol

I got the book this afternoon at Walmart (saw some Twilighters there, standing next to the book racks, reading it)
I’ve been holed up in my bedroom reading ever since. I’m over halfway done :)
All I’m saying is that (so far) Stephenie is… an amazingly devious genius. But also a little predictable in a ‘no way, I read a fanfic about this’ kind of way.
Ok wow, this comment is long. I’ll shut up now.

  72. Becky

it does seem a little… different. less first person and more descriptive at times. Sort of hard to describe. Honestly, so far, it’s rather disappointing. I guess all the hype raised my expectations too high. It’s good, though. And what is up with Bella and that name??Seriously, that is odd, even for Bella.

I’m rambling, so I’ll go back to reading BD.

  73. Rachel

    Becky:
I definetly understand what you are saying…its sooo diffrent from all the other Twilight Saga books. Towards the middle I was freaking out about how weird it was but Im liking it alot better now. But I still have 250 pages left so….we’ll see.
P.S Steph definetly defied the odds and most predictions even if it is a bit strange.

  74. Kaiti

If you love the Twilight series, do yourself a favor — DON’T READ BREAKING DAWN!!!

I’ve never been so disappointed by a book before. I honestly cried when I read it. Not because it was heart-wrenching, but because it was so bad. I feel like I’ve been dumped or something. I feel sad and kind of sick everytime I think of it.

  75. Roki

Anyone afraid of reading breaking dawn? I dont know why but Im so scared. Maybe, its because when this is done, Im afraid there will be nothing to look forward too. Everything will be resolved there wont be a question anymore about who Bella ends up with… this is terrifying! I dont know how SM could write it.

  76. Megan

i’m waiting for my book to come in the mail thanks to the fact that i have yet to get my license :( ! I’ve heard mixed reviews but to tell you the truth for some reason i’m under the impression that Stephenie Meyer can do no wrong, so I’ll probably like it. ha! I’m really really excited, but also sad that i don’t have the book yet, and that I missed out on all the awesome Release parties and meeting other Twilighters (i’m the only one in my school as of now, but I’m trying to get some people to read it). Ahhhhh! I want to read it so bad!

  77. Kassi

That book was completely unfulfilling. I’m so disappointed – I’m going to pretend it doesn’t exist. J: I wish Stephenie’d taken a year off before writing it. It felt really rushed.

  78. Ashley

    Breaking dawn aka burning dawn.

I feel like i just gt stabbed in the gut. After three BEAUTIFUL books about edward and bella we get a gay book with a hell of a lot disturbing plot twits and NO ROMANCE! Except for like the first chapter. Ew jake is SUCH a pedafile.

Its like SM wrote her heart out and then exploded in the last one. When i first read it i thoght it was a sick joke…and stephenie was laughing at all of us. But sadly we were supposed to like this book. Nope. not happening

The twilight saga [well the first three] was still amazing and i still love them. Even if breaking dawn was an epic fail.
Let us hope the host series doesnt have the same dissapointing ending.

  79. Ash is DA BOMB

I liked the book but it seemed like a far fetched fanfic to me I think Stephenie needs to remake the book because I could not feel like these were the real characters like Bella didnt seem like Bella anymore and Edward I felt a major change the beginning was great but then it kinda lost its spark when that certain fact came into view (I was cussing the crap out my pillow as a screamed I didnt want to wake anyone up *sigh*) I can’t even know how anyone can turn this into a movie

I am disappointed that the last book didnt dazzle me like the first (or better like with the last HP) I will be reading “Twilight” again and clense my mind from BD

  80. Chrystina

First off: The midnight release, I was the 12th person to get the book out of hundreds at the Barnes and Noble in my area.. they had everyone outside and let in 100 at a time. When you walked outside holding your book, the crowd went crazy. My friend Heidi even got down on one knee and held the book up, the crowd went wild. It was great!

Second: Not giving a spoiler, it is really crazy but I totally guessed what would happen in this book. OMG.. to the detail. Four months ago my friends and I all gave our opinions as to what would happen in Breaking Dawn and I said (no spoilers) wouldn’t it be crazy if this happened and then this and they all thought I was nuts, but I WAS RIGHT! CRAZY! Today I did have a lot of apologies coming my way. I guess Stephenie and I just think a lot alike! (I even wrote it in my journal 2 1/2 months ago. No Joke!

  81. Amanda

Wow. Just finished about two hours ago. All I have to say is this: WOW. WOW WOW WOW WOW!!! I can’t wait to start chatting with everyone about it!!!

Anyway, my friends and I went to the party as Alice, Rosalie, and Bella at prom in Twilight’s epilouge (I’m blonde, guess which one I was!) and we were the only ones in costume so everyone looked at us funny! But like ten people asked us for pictures and one really little girl actually wanted our autographs! It was a ton of fun. Though actually there was this one 12 year old boy (that’s just my guess on his age) who was dressed up as Edward. Needless to say, all the girls were in love with him! I think he got quite a few numbers. ;)

  82. Alaina

OMG my friends and I went to the Borders release party in Camp Hill, PA and there were SOO many fangirls (including us)… it was so cool seeing everything decorated for Breaking Dawn, and getting free stickers and such. I finished the book early this morning (I’d already read the first 14 chapters online)… and there were some pretty epic fail plot devices, but all in all, I AM IN LOVE WITH IT ALL OVER AGAIN!!! I am so sad I finished it I’m about to read it again. LONG LIVE TWILIGHT!

  83. becky sue

I have to admit: I havn’t actually finished it YET, but so far so good. QUITE a bit shocking, to be truthful. I keep on gasping or giggling from shock when things happen. My friends and I went to the closest release party and read until 5:30 AM. I was quite bummed though, because I had to stop reading to sleep and go to work. Life can be so painful, no? And I think the sleep deprivation got to us a little. You KNOW your tired when you start wondering if Edward’s farts would smell like a normal person’s or….. just be Amazing.

  84. Christine

I got the book at 12:20 and was on page 308 at 3:54 AM when i went to sleep. I woke up at 1:00 PM and finished reading around 4:00ish.
I really loved it! Im re-reading it tomorrow. :)
(Oh and i cried….but you’ll have to read to understand why ^^)

  85. Mel

Ah, countdowns to midnight… At the release party thing I was at the person was directing everyone where to go and all we got was a “Oh, yeah, btw it’s midnight” and then there was screeching and a lot of it.

  86. Christine

oh also the release party in memphis was really cool. I gots two sets of stickers and my nails look awesome.
Lots of fun screaming fangirls ( I was one of them)

  87. Shelby

So the release party we had in Eau Claire Wisconsin was pretty fun!

I finished Breaking Dawn in 17 hours!

    I have two fun stories:
    1) There was a costume contest and two of my friends went up as Edward and Bella, and her dad was Charlie (candy foil wrapper in the shape of a star sheriff’s badge included) He ‘gave her away’ it was really quite funny! They won of course, and people decided they needed to take pictures with Edward aka Frank and Bella aka Nina. One girl even went as far as to asking ‘Bella’ if her and ‘Edward’ were really together…I laughed for 10 minutes!

    2) We had an arm wrestling contest, like something Emmett would do… I went up against a guy who had already beaten 5 people and ended up in a stalemate for 5 minutes until the store people called it a draw. The other girls that went after me weren’t so lucky…I was evenly matched…funny thing is though, I sat down on the chair and stepped on his foot…oops!

    BREAKING DAWN IS AMAZING!!!!

  88. FabGab49

i preordered mine AND IT HASN’T COME YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\

I JUST GOTTA FIND OUT HOW THIS ENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CURSE THE INFERNAL SLOWNESS OF AMAZON . COM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  89. Terrbear

So since the boards are still down, I shall comment here. Kaleb, DONT READ BREAKING DAWN. When you get to the end of Eclipse, just make up your own ending! Trust me! It will save you time, money, and keep the love in the characters. I loved the beginning.
    ***SPOILER***

Started hating it once the kid came into the picture! Come on! Why not Elizabeth? AN ACTUAL NAME!? I hated it. the ending was dumb, and I felt it was rushed, and SM was trying to please her readers. It scares me that this was her ending for the series since book 1! I think my favorite character was Seth! Just because he was like the only one who stayed in character! I felt that SM lied about her Vamp rules, and seriously if you replaced all the characters names, would you still love it? I felt like I was reading a fanfic! The whole time! I am majorly disappointed. I don’t know if I can go reread the other books. I will always know that Bella completely changes, Edward becomes just a speaker for people, Jacob becomes a pedophile, and Charlie just knows! And no fighting! NONE! Gah! WASTE OF TIME!

Sorry, I am soo mad and I wanted to get this off my chest. I am actually considering to stop reading the books again. I’ve lost all hope for the entire series.

  90. Allie

It feels like edward and bella grew up to fast in this one.

    Or is it just me?

    blahh.

  91. Kina

I won the costume contest at our bookstore, it was obvious from the moment I walked in.

Stephenie Meyer should be subjected to Jane for that travesty.

  92. HeyJoyous

My local Books A Million had a blood drive leading up to the release party. :-D

I snuck to Wal-Mart at 12:04 to snatch a copy of the book and head home. I was disappointed that no one else was around but then was rewarded with a free Breaking Dawn t-shirt and other freebies. Also, I got the last shirt left so others must have been there before me.

I enjoyed the book. The first half was just weird. Not at all what I expected. The 2nd half was awesome. The 2nd half saved the book for me. :)

  93. Gyll

I can’t really say what I thought of the book. Maybe it’s because I lost some of the connection I felt with the characters in this book. While reading I had always put myself in Bella’s position and enjoyed that we shared so many similarities that I could pretend for the most part to be Bella. I have always been in sync with what she was feeling. The beginning was great but then somewhere along the line, before the Nessie intro, I got lost. Somehow, even though they were on honeymoon, some of the romance was lost. As the book continued, all sex appeal and my connection with Bella’s character was gone. Book 2 was good and though I’d always loved Jacob in the way Bella did (less than Edward) he was the only one I felt a connection with. The Nessie thing in the beginning absolutely revolted me and even though it ameliorated after the “process” was complete, I still felt a total disconnection with the characters I used to love. It felt as though, even though Edward and Bella wee having sex the descriptions of their interactions were less intimate somehow. It’s hard to explain.
To be brief, the feel of reading the book felt a bit more along the lines of reading the Harry Potter books, exciting and adventurous and obviously the intense need to know the end, but the sweetness of what the other books are was gone.
The characters felt off and though I must admit, I did like that Bella got to stay with Charlie and Jacob was happy, it felt more as if the author decided that instead of following the path the book should have gone, she found it too painful to hurt her characters and decided to cop-out.
The ending was mildly satisfying and did give me a sense of closure I wasn’t expecting (I expected to be absolutely obsessed and be in serious need of therapy for the separation anxiety) but truth be told, I think it’s because I wasn’t in love with the characters anymore.
    I’m neutral.

  94. Gyll

oh I forgot. I totally agree with Terrbear. and don’t bite my head off, but does anyone feels it’s ironic and they would be critizing the bad name choice for the baby (i agree completely) and have such a funny post name? just me then.

  95. Sammy

omg i got the book yesterday at about 2:00 PM and have hardly had time to put it down. I didn’t actually start reading it until 4:00 or so because I had an EEG but still. I’m almost done!

I read what Terrbear thinks and totally disagree. The book has been marvelous so far. I am happy about Bella’s changes because she is still essentially the same person, just a bit more vampric. I disagree with the pedaphile comment as well. If you pay attention, the book describes the way Jacob feels very plainly – its not like, romantic, not yet. She’s just a baby. All he wants is for Renesmee to be happy.

Btw – Renesmee Carlie Cullen rox!!

AND – because both Edward and Jacob are obviously taken, I am team Seth. Plus, I think our personalities would mesh more. Edward and Jacob are, I believe, perfectly suited. That is why I am in love with Seth now.

  96. Chelsea

I loved the book although it was nothing I would have ever guessed. I got it at midnight and then stayed up all night and day until one a o’clock in the afternoon when I finally put the book down finished.
I have to agree with Gyll. It didn’t feel the same connection to the characters execpt for jacob. I also didn’t feel the same cute romance with Edward and Bella. Of course you can’t get to into it because this is a teen novel. The book was overall great entertaining and kept me guess until the end. (most of which were wrong)

  97. Annie

I got my book at about 12:10. I finished it yesterday at around 11:40 pm.

I really loved the book, but in some ways i was disappointed.

But now i’m sick. and that sucks.

  98. PaceVamp77

I was crazy excited. I got it 6 minutes after midnight, finished it last night. By the way, Kaleb: the chat is nothing but BD discussion, so read with extreme caution. Actually, just don’t read any of the stuff already written.

  99. chica

I went to the Breaking Dawn COncert in NYC ( woot woot bronx 4 life -sorry had to say tha) and all i have to say is that it was an amazing experience. Me n my friends were on line for 4 hours waiting and you could just tell how dedicated Stephenie’s readers are! Let me just say the tourists in NYC were extrmely confused by the thousands of screaming teenage girls who were broadcasting what fictional character they wanted to marry… it was hilarious to see their reactions. i proceeded to a realese party (amazingness) and got el libro… i stayed up all night reading and fell asleep at my job the next day BUT it was worth it. i loved the book!!!

  100. Jenna

I honestly wish I hadn’t read it. I loved the Twilight Series up until BD. All the books were great, and I have reread them and probably will reread them in the future. Except Breaking Dawn. It was ridiculous and far-fetched, and really just seemed like some bizarre fan-fic.

So I am just pretending it ended with Eclipse, because BD just destroyed so much of what I loved.

  101. Karryne

haha the release party i went to was great. i was dressed up as bella for a costume contest and i tripped walking on to the “stage” lol. too bad i didn’t win though, all of my friends thought i was going to because i fell.

  102. Sariah

I am shocked that so many people don’t like it! I loved it!!!

I can kind of understand when people say that the characters changed – but only kind of. Only in the way that they should change! The whole series is over the course of a couple of years and they’re growing up. Bella and Edward get married – she gets pregnant – that’s a lot of growing up!

I imagine that if you’re a teenager, you find it easier to relate to the single teenage girl dating a hot vampire than it is to relate to someone who is married and having a child. I found that I related to Bella throughout the whole series, but then, I’m married and have children now. So, when I first read the Twilight books, I remembered being a teenager dealing with relationships and falling in love. And when I read this book, I remembered getting married to the man of my dreams and having my first child – and how much that changed EVERYTHING. – How much it changed ME!

To me, this was a great book. I do believe the characters stayed true to who they are. They just matured a bit because that’s what happens when you go through life experiences. Bella grew up! Finally! lol

Unlike so many commenters, I do feel satisfied with how it all ended. I don’t think it was just to please the fans, I think it is all the story that SM has had in her heart the whole time. When I read the final page, I felt good about it. I didn’t feel like anything was missing or that I needed more. I liked it and I’m totally satisfied.

P.S. Renesme isn’t exactly the name I’d choose, it’s definitely different. But it’s growing on me. I like her nickname better. lol

  103. ambersunrise

I was at a Barnes & Noble for a release party and it was insane! There were girls in full-on prom dresses with hair done and everything. I wasn’t aware that there was a party party happening, I was just there for the book. It was definitely one of the more wild parties I’ve been to =P

  104. urcoolcarrie

ok, so on the morning of august 1st, my mom and i went to go get wristbands to assure us our wonderful place in line. well, turns out that our 8 oclock arrivial was very late, even though the stor opened at 9. we waited outside for 3 hours JUST TO GET THE WRISTBANDS!! it was insane! then, of course, the midnight release party was awesome. over 1000 people crammed into the barnes and noble, and they were all trying to get pictures with the “edward and bella” people, and they had to actually shove everyone out at 11 just to prepare for the release. :) crazy. oh ya, so the theme of the party was wedding reception, so there was a volvo out front that had all these decorations on it. way cool. so anyway, edward and bella were standing outside by it at about 11:45, taking pictures with the car and stuff. well, they jumped up on the hood, and dented it. a very mad girl that was in her late teens-early twenties came out, and started screaming! it was her car, and she was mad. edward went over and tried to tell her that he would pay for it to be fixed, and she wouldn’t listen. she got in the car, and sped off as fast as the car would allow her to go. weird.
anyway, overall a great night! and best of all, i’m done with breaking dawn!! it was beyond wonderful. :)

  105. megan

    wow.
i didnt even realize that people might not like the book until reading those comments. way to be harsh!
i personally LOVED the book. it was different yes but only because bella grew up to be an beautiful adult with confidence. the only reason im sad in the slightest is because its over. there wont be another book except for midnight sun possibly.
all in all THE BOOK WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  106. megan

christine! i was in memphis! were you in carriage crossing??

  107. Athena of Forks

I was supposed to work until 11 Friday night, but I got off work three hours early just so I could go to the party. It was pretty much a wedding reception for Bella and Edward; I even got my picture taken with the bride and groom! :D They had hourly bouquet tosses for a free copy (I’m about as coordinated as Bella, so I didn’t bother with that), Alice Bingo, pin the tail on Jacob, pass the bouquet (like hot potato, but with bouquets)… so many fun party games to pass the time, and I met so many people because of our common love for Twilight.

Anyway, there was a local radio station there playing DJ and doing drawings every 15 minutes for a chance to win a free copy of Breaking Dawn. I entered, not really expecting to win, because I never win anything. They kicked us out of the store to start forming the line around 11. Just as I’d settled into my place in line (which was really more like several groups of people huddled in various places around the parking lot – and this was after buying some great Twi-merchandise from some of the other party-goers), I got a call on my cell phone. I didn’t recognize the number, but decided I’d probably better answer it. When I answered, the voice on the other end said, “Is this Heather?” Slightly wary, but also vaguely recognizing the voice, I answered in the affirmative. The voice on the other end said, “This is John from 101.9 The End… you just won a free copy of Breaking Dawn! Are you outside?” Shocked, I said, “Yeah… I’m just in line…” It sounded like he was smiling, sounding about as excited to give me my prize as I was to receive it, when he said, “OK. Just meet me by the front doors, then!” I walked there in a daze, found him, and told him my name. He held up the slip of paper I’d written my name and number on for the drawing and asked me to verify my number, just to make sure I really was who I said I was. When I answered correctly, he handed me a certificate for me to exchange at midnight in return for my copy of Breaking Dawn. I was so excited that I was literally shaking as I texted my friends and my mom to tell them the great news as I waited anxiously for them to let us back into the store so we could get our books. I’m normally not one to squeal for joy, no matter what the reason, but when they handed me my book, I couldn’t resist leaping into the air and giving a very fan-girly squeal, I was so happy! I even had one of the other fans take a picture of me with my new book, just to make me feel more like it was real, and not just a wonderful dream, since, like I mentioned before, I never seem to win anything. While I had to work on Saturday and Sunday, I still managed to finish Breaking Dawn by 9:30 PM on Sunday, but the fact that it was slow enough at work for me to read might have had a lot to do with that… ;)

  108. Athena of Forks

Whoops! That was long… *blushes* Sorry, everyone!

  109. jordan

i stayed up till 4 reading then all of a sudden crashed. i thought the book was ok but no the best

  110. Chelsea

Twilight fans can kill me verbally, but….. I really loathed Breaking Dawn. The plot seems too contrived, and I’ve honestly seen more coherent plots from fan fiction. It’s seems she threw aside some main parts of the canon (biology wise at least for the vampires), and drew attention away from the main important internal conflicts of the first three books for the sake of a happy ending.

    ~Chelsea

  111. Sarah

Oh! Can I tell my BD story?

My mom and I walked for twenty minutes till we got to the bookstore at 11:10. Lots of people were dressed up and looked just amazing.

Anyway, they split us into two groups for the trivia contest: Team Jacob and Team Edward. I’m Switzerland, but I love Jacob too much not to be on his team. The questions were really HARD! “What were the two bets made in New Moon? You have to say who makes the bets, what they’re about and the dollar amount involved.” “While Edward and Bella are driving up to the Cullens house in New Moon, what river do they pass?” “What’s Alice’s sister’s name?” Naturally, I was the one who kept coming up with answers. Everyone high-fived me at the end, and Jacob, after all, DID win! XD

  112. BreakingDawn'sBiggestFan

I don’t know what all of you so called “fans” are talking about!! Plus, even if it was not what you expected, you should support it! What if Steph showed up here and saw your comments? She’d be just crushed! She is just a romantic at heart, and loves a good ol’ happy ending!!!! I’m sorry to those of you who were disappointed, but I’m appaled at some of you!! Chelsea:
“Twilight fans can kill me verbally, but…… I really loathed Breaking Dawn.”
That’s harsh!!! But whatever… everyone has their opinion.

  113. Chelsea

Exactly. Even though I’m a fan of the series I can still have a negative opinion. A word to the wise: make sure you can follow your own advice before you give it out.

    ~Chelsea

  114. marcela

its amazing to think that people hated the book i loved the book i have to say it was ….unexpected but still it kinda huets me to know that so menny ppl hate the book

  115. Len

It was good. I actually enjoyed it. It was not what I expected at all. I found Seth really funny and liked/understand Jacob more. I think SM has her reasons why things happened and we’ll soon know those reasons. I got my “happily ever after.”

  116. Katelyn Smith

Well i went to a release party with a friend of mine we seemed a litte old for it when they were doing a Twlilight themed scavager hunt it was nuts !!! All the kids were running so my friend and just left till the noise went down.

  117. danielle w.

the book was alright. i was disapointed because i’d *wanted* a different ending, or feeling from Edward’s and Bella’s romance that i just didnt get in BD. part of me understands the need to tie everything together- such as Jake being with Nessie- but i really missed the romantic, softer tones from the other books. i didn’t enjoy the book like i thought i would. it was different…but of course, i’m not the author, so it’s satisfying in a final sort of way.

  118. cathsdeen

Kaleb, I am honestly thinking about how you will react to BD. It was such a disappointment. To me, SM threw away a great opportunity to crystallize the themes of love and sacrifice. Maybe you should stop reading at eclipse…

  119. noooway

i have to admit i was disappointed with breaking dawn, it was confusing and strange when the vulturi came. i was also mad about the whole jacob part and considered skipping over it was that bad. And where was edward! i mean he is the best character was barely and even talked about.Maybe it was so anticipated and everyone had such high hopes that it just seemed bad. But seriously stephanie owes a 5th book after she gave us that.

  120. molly

i agree with cathsdeen!!! Kaleb, quit after eclipse!

  121. Jillian

I can’t help chuckling at the videos of thousands of screaming fangirlz. Not smacking on them, because I am one myself, but while they waited in line and paid full price, I bought my copy at 11:46 at a very empty Meijers (a super chain in Midwest). A bunch of the books were just sitting in the box, and some pre-teens and I just opened the box and made a break for it! I did have to ride my bike to the store, but all in all was a fun night.
BTW, love your posts, Kaleb, keep them coming!

  122. Kiki

That line in the first clip was insane! I would’ve loved to be part of all that mayhem! Was there seriously only 1 register open though? Poor cashier! lol

  123. bri

no. this book just does not work. this one should not even be considered in the series with the other three. they were amazing. this was just… bad. i’m still trying to get over it and go back to loving tw, nm, and ec. i hope i can. and i agree. stop after eclipse, because it kind of tarnishes the first three books. or it did for me, anyway. i was so disappointed that i threw it when i was done reading it.

  124. Mandy

I don’t know why people hated it so much! i absolutely loved it! sure, there were some parts that were…ehem…graphic, btu whatever
    it rocked!
i think it was really awesome. i didn’t get my books until monday so i went online on blogs and stuff to see how people liked it and after the reaction everyone had i was kind of scared to read it, but i loved it in the end
    it rocked.
i think it was suposed to show us a maturer bella, you know?
    whatever, that’s just my opinion
    i loved it!

  125. BhuntI

    Just finished the book ;D
Got mine this morning.. I was so excited..culdn’t contain myself.. LOL.

    But the book’s GREAT..
Glad Jake’s allrite in the end , even though I dont really like his character, he got his happy endin.. in some creepy-freaky way.. leaving edward and bella ALONE..thankgod!!!!

And Edward+Bella+baby live Happily ever after..
END OF STORY and everyone’s HAppy!!!

    But the no fighting-thing sucked!!
    what an anti-climax :( !!

    P.S-
CAn’t hardly wait for ***MIDNIGHT SUN***…
    (^^)

  126. Alexandra

Breaking Dawn ROCKS! I know people have their own opinions but I find it difficult to see why so many of you hated it. Of course, I don’t think it is the best in the series, but it isn’t the worst either. Kaleb, do not stop reading after Eclipse. You have to read it to know for sure what you think of it, and of course, the entire series together. I hope you DO like it!

  127. Kylie

OMG i loved this book.Me and my step sis Stayed at Barnes and Noble for like 5 hours waiting for it!!!WHat sucked is they were supposed to have activities but they had nothing!!
But We finally got the book at 12:04 :]
    It’s amazing.
Plenty of Lattes from Starbucks that night!! lol!!

  128. Savannah

Me and my step sis (Kylie)
went to get the book,i just started the third one and so far i love it.So i was really happy to go to the Book opening even though we were there forever.
people tried to dress like Bella and the cullens when they went to the prom but they were alllll ugly. The coffe was good and i can’t wait to read the 4th book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!We were number 124 :]
plus we had already pre ordered. They even had journals for the books.I got the Journal before i even knew it was suppoed to go with the books.
did i menchion the coffeeee was awesome?!( i got three souveniors)
    =]

  129. Shelby

I made the mistake of pre-ordering my copy of Breaking Dawn and didn’t get it until Wednesday. However, I stayed up from 9 at night til around 6 in the morning, slept for a few hours, and read some more, amazing so far, but it’s all crammed into one book…

  130. shane

I really did enjoy the book, honestly. But, she just left a giant gaping hole as an ending. I know that this was supposed to be the end of the series, but..hm? Could I writer just leave a book like that?

  131. Christina

I was at a midnight release! It was freaking awesome. I was on vacation and I made my Mom drive over a half hour from our shore house to the nearest bookstore that was open until midnight with it. I was the third to last in line because I got there SO FREAKING LATE! I waited over an hour behind about 150 people, arguing with some creepy guy about whether jacob was better for bella or edward, and then i FINALLY got my book! I was up until 3 AM reading, and then i read the whole drive home from vacation the next day until i felt like i would throw up from car sickness. i went into a borders the other day and i was looking at all the brand new breaking dawns and i suddenly realized…wow…my breaking dawn looks very abused compared to these. I read it ALOT.
I’m thoroughly sick of people constantly saying that breaking dawn wasn’t as good as it could’ve been, (i heard someone say it sounded like a ‘bad fanfiction’…i was about to strangle them). I mean…if it comes from stephenie meyer, you can’t say it sounds like a fanfic because it is THE REAL THING and everyone else is diluting themselves with all the crap they post up on fanfiction. No offense to fanfic ppl, i’ve read many a great story, but that doesn’t change the fact that stephenie meyer’s breaking dawn was REALLLLL and i LOVED it. HA.
my rant is finished. I absolutely adore you, twilight guy, you are really really cool, and i will read your book when it comes out like the devoted person that i am.

    hay, i love your site.
anyhooo breaking dawn… fans seem to be going nuts about the last book and i can see why they are disapointed… i understand where they are comming from. however i happened to love the book. it was BIZZARRR. thats the best word for it. but i still loved it. i cried at parts and i laughed at parts and my jaw dropped at parts.
it did not give me diahrea, which was a good sign. lol.
anyway i went to the midnight release party showed up at barnes and nobles at 6pm got a wrist band with the number 256 on it, played bella bingo won twice got two buttons and made a bracelet, and bought three copies of the book- one for myself, one for my sister and one for the library. oh and an audio book cause i was going to the casino in jersey after i got the book. since reading in the car is like an impossiablity i listened to it in my cd player for the three hour drive it took me to get there. it was BIZZARR! but great because it was wierd and unexpected. some things i was like ????? but i still enjoyed it. in fact i read it twice because i figured maybe i should make sure i read it right the first time lol. but i liked it even more the second time. so im gonna read it a third time, starting now. lol anyway, when you read it you can make your own opinion of it.
i just feel bad for stephanie meyer and i feel bad for her fans because most of them are taking this book personal. i can relate a bit to their feelings because i had felt the same way with new moon when it first came out, but after re-reading it a few times it grew on me.
maybe, with breaking dawn, that will happen with the other fans after the dust settles and the initial shock wears off.

OMFG. I got this the day it came.
My Twilight groupie (Sam and Emily. Small group, but it never gets lonely when you have the forever-awesome Twilight Sega to talk about.) were so happy when it came out. =3
    Woott….
Now I can’t wait for Midnight Sun.
    WOOOOOOOT!

  134. PeachyPrincess

Wow. Ouch. I am so dissappointed with the Twilight fans now. Didn’t we all hope that awkward clumsy Bella would grow up? And be happy, and have children with Edward? We got that! We should be screaming with joy! It’s so wonderful to see Bella and Edward finally connect with eachother both physically and emotionally. They still love eachother, just not in the crazy passionate first love way. It’s good to see them living their dreams. Be happy for them. Isn’t that what we wanted in the end?

  135. edwardlover101

omg!!!! i love breaking dawn!!!! i can’t believe that she got pregnent by a VAMPIRE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN WHY DOES ALICE LEAVE??????????????? WELL HOPE YOU ENJOY THE BOOK!!!!!lol!!!!!!

It took me a while to get my book and even longer for me to finish it. :/ Breaking Dawn was the slowest book I’ve ever read- basically, it was 600 pages of filler before the ending. Which was, in my humble opinion, the best part of the book.

Twilight was good; New Moon was okay; Eclipse was ehh; and now New Moon was pretty bad.

Maybe Meyer should just write one book and not a series; she’s not very good at it.

I went to a midnight release party and it was really cool. I feel really bad for my dad though, poor guy. I love him, but he HATES reading. He had no idea what I had dragged him into. I just called him up at work:

ME:(innocent, little girl voice) “Hey Dadddddy?”
    DAD:”Yeah?”
ME:”Are you gonna be out of work before midnight?”
DAD:”Yeah, I’ll be home around eleven, why?”
ME: (internally celebrating) “Will you take me to go get a book at Borders at midnight? Pleaseee?”
    DAD: “Um, okay.”

So then, he gets home and I ask him to take me to the book store. We get in the car (I’m all decked out in black and red)and we start driving when he goes, “What is this book even about?”

    ME: “Vampires.”
DAD: “Oh god. You’re not wearing fake vangs, are you?”

So then, we are just about to pull up to Borders when I thought I should give him SOME kind of warning.

ME: “Um, there might be some sort of… party going on. But when we get home, you can just forget it all happened. I promise. And I love you.”
(We pull into parking lot, it’s filled with cars.)
My dad just shakes his head.
I was wristlet number 214. So this is basically just me thanking my dad for getting up in the middle of the night, driving me 25 minutes to Borders, staying with me while I waited fifty minutes in line, then most of all, buying Breaking Dawn for me :]. I think that definatly qualifies him as a Twilight Guy.

SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!! Major spoiler alert!!

Foremost, let us bear in mind that this series is Stephenie Meyer’s story. NOT yours, mine, or anyone else’s. She let us into her story to see what was going on, not to pick what would or wouldn’t happen. Understand that she LET us read it; we never had any input. And I for one am glad she allowed me to hang out for the whole ride. She didn’t write it for us, guys, even though she loves her fans. As George MacDonald said in his essay, The Fantastic Imagination, “If it do not even wake an interest, throw it aside. A meaning may be there, but it is not for you.”

I’ve read a lot of negative reviews on Breaking Dawn, and I decided to respond with my own impression of the book. First of all, let me say that my cousin forced me to read the series. I have always hated vampires, werewolves, zombies, and anything else like that. And a story about a girl who loves a vampire seemed too cliché for words. However, SM’s characters are brilliantly written even if the plots can be lacking. I now love the series!

Here are 10 things I have to say about some complaints. I just have to SAY something, you know?

First, people say “Bella wasn’t like Bella! She used to be sweet and naïve and in love and HUMAN.” Main point: she is no longer human through most of the book. They ALWAYS said she would be different as a vampire. If this displeases you, think about the alternative, which is Bella eventually dying and Edward killing himself. Not happy.

Second, people say they hated the name of Bella’s kid. Seeing as my friend is named Smile, I’m not sure anyone can really complain. His (yes, he’s a him) parents were hippies in the sixties, if that explains anything. :)

Third, people say the book was too gruesome, especially with Bella’s pregnancy and giving birth. Yep, that was pretty knarly, I must say. However, as to why the heck she would go through that… she’s going to be a mom, and good moms will do anything to save their kids. Besides, if the pregnancy had only been a bit uncomfortable, would that make sense? A half immortal child doesn’t even SOUND like an easy thing to give birth to.

Fourth, Edward was a jerk trying to get her to kill the kid and he never said sorry! Okay, fine, but to be fair he didn’t have the kid alive inside him. Guys, no offense, but you can’t know what that’s like. He was afraid for Bella. He would do anything to keep her safe, and keep in mind he wasn’t thinking of the baby as a baby; it was the thing killing his wife. Lots of guys would rather save the mother and try again for a child later (even though it’s a horrifically hard choice), while the mothers would rather die and let their child live.

Fifth, apparently Edward was distracted and not as romantic throughout the book. To this I’d like to say, they have a CHILD now, which totally shifts priorities. If you’re a good parents (and they are), you become all about your kid. Not that you don’t have a life, it’s just that if you need to you give it all up for your kid. May I note that he and Bella have a child? They don’t know exactly what she is or if she’ll live long or who might try to kill her for what she is. They’re a little stressed. Ultimately, Bella and Edward are GROWING UP and quickly at that.

Sixth, there wasn’t a cute, sweet romance with Edward and Bella. Well, not only are they now husband and wife (at which point cutsie doesn’t cut it for an eternity-long commitment), Bella is a newborn and has certain strong urges. Besides, they can’t be teens in love forever (even though they are technically teenagers in love forever… hmm…). They’ve got to grow.

Seventh, the vampire-ness of the book was creepy and far-fetched. Umm, yes… yes it was. And in case you weren’t tuned in for the rest of the series, the other books aren’t quite so realistic. People, I think, liked the pretty side of the vampire’s life without having to see the whole drinking blood, strong urges, messy side of it. Life’s rough; get a helmet.

Eight, having a kid isn’t vampire-like and it’s totally not coherent with what SM said the vampires are like. Yes it is, people. SM even explained it to us. And based on the freakish nature of Bella and Edward’s relationship already (come on, a human and a human-eater? It’s like a crocodile loving a goat), is there really any surprise that they have a mutant kid?

Nine, the part from Jacob’s point of view was inconsistent with the other books. Well… okay. I love it, so that’s about all I have to say. Gave insight into his character for me.

Ten, what the heck happened to the epic battle scene? SM said it was supposed to be a book where minds warred. I liked it, honestly, and no one I liked had to die. Besides, there was already a big fight in the last book. I liked the whole wit against wit thing. Aro and Co. got BURNED! Yeah!

In conclusion to long-winded rant, I would like to say that I loved the book. As crazy as I may sound for saying this, I found it a whole lot LESS stressful than the previous two. It was the final relief of the whole obsessed-Jacob thing that did it. I love the idea of Jacob with N. Also, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that SM let us see the wedding, the honeymoon, N’s birth, and their life. We know how their life will be, pretty much. I love the closure and I am happy.

Maybe the reason some people have such a problem with the book is because of how Bella has grown and changed with the circumstances. Lots of girls put themselves in Bella’s place and pretend to be Bella through the story. Since I abhor the idea of being her (even though I like her as a character), this isn’t an issue for me.

So enjoy the book, or not. It’s your choice. Just don’t go around being offended it didn’t happen how you wanted. Like I pointed out, it’s her story. We just get to read it.

Oh, sorry about the email address I gave. It isn’t valid because I don’t have email. Pathetic? Yeah, but I’m posting this from the library because I don’t even have a computer.

Just wanted to apologize, since it did say VALID address. I wanted to post, so I made one up.

Oh, hey, did you design the website layout and decor? If so, nice.

My friend slept over and we read until 3 in the morning with no stop whatsoever. Then read it for about four hours straight when my sister and I were going down the shore. I was starving and didn’t even NOTICE until I got home and put the book down. That’s how good it was.

  141. Katie ~

I go back and forth on loving the book and not liking it. It is very strange. I see all the points you make, and others have made, and I question the true reasons why I liked it, and if I just like it because it WAS happy, and I’m a sap, or SM wrote it. I really don’t know. I think I really wanted to like it, so I keep finding excuses to like it. It’s hard to do but I think any Twilight fan can, at least for a few seconds love BD, just because it IS happy and then immediately hate it again! It’s just that kind of book.

  142. Mel

I ADORED Breaking Dawn. I devoured it the minute I got. Seriously, I didn’t sleep or eat – much less talk to anyone – while I was reading it. It took me all night and I was breathless by the end. It was sooo good! I have no idea how people can hate it; everything was brilliant to me. I can’t wait for Midnight Sun to finally come up. The first 12 chapters made my life.

  143. Elizabeth

I’m new to the whole Twilight phenomenon. It was “billed” to me as the “next Harry Potter,” and let’s face it, who can compete with Harry Potter? Harry Potter is a Universe unto itself. That being said, the Twilight series is also its own fantstic Universe. You can’t compare the two series. Each is incredible in its own way.

I just read the books this week, finishing last night and averaging rougly 24 hours per book, allowing for 3 to 6 hours of sleep a night and keeping in mind that I have two kids and a husband to take care of. I was honestly surprised at how good the books are. Ms. Meyer is an excellent writer and I loved Breaking Dawn.

Truthfully, H.P. and the Sorcer’s Stone is not the best book ever written. Ms. Rowling’s writing improves as the books progress and it took her until the third or fourth book to really warm up. Ms. Meyer was already warmed up and “threw no-hitters” every time. Her descriptions all the way through were so vivid that I felt like I was actually in Forks, in Bella’s room with her, at the Cullen’s, in the clearing . . . a book I could really sink my teeth into! As a matter of fact, I went to the Forks web-site and checked out the “Twilight Points of interest” pictures and First Beach was exactly the way I pictured it.

IMHO, Breaking Dawn was the natural progression of Edward and Bella. I read a few comments on the book stating that the relationship with Edward and Bella lacked that “sticky sweet” romance from the other books. However, having “been there and done that,” I have to say that relationships evolved and change and I love what they became as a couple and as parents.

I’ve read the argument that Bella was not Bella anymore after she was changed, but I was amazed at how much the same she really was. I was prepared for her to become really different because all along Edward kept telling her that. But she was still herself. My favorite part of the book *SPOILER* was when Edward changed her. The description was incredible.

Another thing I have to say about Ms. Meyer’s books are that they are slightly predictable, only I mean that as the highest compliment. Everything went the way I wanted it to. I know that she didn’t write her books for me, but they really struck a chord.

The final battle in Breaking Dawn was so tense. I was “sitting on the edge of my seat” throughout and loved that it was a happy ending. In reading the chapters leading up to it, I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be. I hoped it would be a good one, but I wavered back and forth as Bella did.

Way to go Ms. Meyer! Thanks for letting us into your Twilight Universe.

I stayed up, regardless, to midnight that night, like I do every night, and I didnt even know about that book then. Barely found out about it early October (like the fourth), then went and finished Twilight in a matter of 5 hours… Then Im still re-reading the series every weekend.

By the way, this book was my favorite. I already got the limited edition box set (the one with the posters) they were selling at B&N. Everything about them is still in perfect condition, and I ain’t letting anyone touch ‘em.

  145. Amanda

The Borders workers at the release party here were evil. About 15 minutes before Midnight, they began to mock us. They were opening the boxes and waving the books around, showing them to us, being sure to wait until exactly Midnight. Two of them actually began to read it. Which they technically could have gotten in trouble for. I was seventeen in line, so I got mine pretty quick. I also got one of the boxes they were shipped in.

  146. Sueki

Breaking Dawn is my favorite book in the Twilight series. I absolutely could not put it down for an entire day and night.

SM truly has an incredible gift. She created a fantastic modern day “Romeo and Juliet.” And she made everyone CARE about Edward, Bella and their families. Their struggles, pain, happiness…we could all relate to what Bella was feeling in some way. She was very HUMAN after all. But SM’s story all along meant for her to change and for all of her other characters to progress as well. Bella HAD to become a vampire, because who would have felt right with a 90 year old Bella being kissed by a 17 year old Edward?

I loved the way it happened too. Bella “dies” giving birth to their child, but Edward saves her one last time. He brings her back. A newborn Bella. The funny thing is that it was the perfect way for her transformation to happen. People normally think of vampirism as “death” but in this case her human life was already over and Edward’s venom was the only thing that could save her and bring her back to him. Jacob gave up and walked away, and there was Edward…never giving up on his true love.

And even though she was no longer human, Bella never lost the strength she possessed all along. It was almost like it was always there in her to begin with. And becoming a vampire simply amplified who she really was. She no longer needed Edward “saving” her from every little thing. And I loved seeing her empowered. It was like watching a caterpillar become a butterfly. Edward is still the love of her life, but the relationship is no longer skewed. They meet on even ground. As it should be.

I think I know why a lot of people did not like Breaking Dawn. It shows Edward and Bella’s relationship maturing at a rapid pace. Major events take place which cause BIG “character shifts.” Edward is not the same. Bella is not the same. Marriage, honeymoon, baby, etc.

They truly are star crossed lovers though. And love is something that evolves. It does not stay the same or burn with the same passion and intensity of a first kiss. True love is of the spirit. And it is there in Breaking Dawn. Most definitely.

I am so glad SM wrote this entire series. I was happy about all the loose ends being tied up. And a battle most definitely was fought in the end. But it was the kind where your friends and family stand with you no matter what happens. The kind of battle you win with the strength of love and hope. The Volturi had no other option but to skulk away in “mock defeat.” But even at the end, SM still leaves the possibility that the story is never really over, not for the Volturi, and most certainly not for Edward and Bella.

My heartfelt thanks to SM for a truly wonderful story!

    omgg. i loooooved breaking dawn!
but, i honestly think there should have been a war and jacob and renesmee should have ran away. there would have totally been another book bout that!

  148. abby

ok, new to this awesome website, so thats why im posting these comments 6 months late. i was at summer camp when the book came out, so me and my friends spent the last we counting “1 hour breaking dawn had been out and unread…2 hours… 3 hours…” right up until my dad drove onto campus and handed me the book. it was my favorite of the whole series. i saw one person above said how in the original book bella was so innocent and thought holding edwards hand was the best thing ever, and look what theyre doing now… well, i will say that i have while i love just being near the guy i like, i would jump at the chance for something like the breaking dawn honeymoon ;p

point is: breaking dawn is awesome, go team jacob, and kaleb nation rules all!

  149. abby

woops multiple spelling and grammer errors… sorry!

  150. Insane Jasper Fan, AKA Erika

*Sigh* I was disappointed by Breaking Dawn. I mean, I loved it, since I’m a crazy, overly-obsessive fan. But it was…lacking.
Bella lost her “Bella-ness.” She didn’t really seem much like Bella anymore. Well, no one would seem like themselves after being changed into a vampire.
And Edward sort of, well, I don’t know how to put it. I wasn’t very happy with him.
The rest of the Cullens, except Rosalie, have small parts here and there, but we definitely don’t see them as much as we did in the first three books. It was really sad how we see Garrett more than Jasper. :(
Let’s see…no fight at the end. I guess I can live with that, though.
There were A LOT of characters that had small roles and were just sort of like fluff to make the story last longer. Um, there were about 70 characters mentioned in Breaking Dawn, give or take a few. I made a huge character chart that showed how everyone connected to one another. It’s almost 5 feet tall. I have no life.;)
Other than the dozens of characters and change of personality, I adored the book.
    –Erika–

Best book! And Sueki that comment was really great! I was SO glad that jacob finally left bella alone. i really hate jacob. i loved when bella became a vampire. and i hated what jacob was saying about edward. he hurt bella more than edward did. he left her after edward did leaving he all alone.
    BREAKING DAWN ROCKS!
