TwilightGuy in Entertainment Weekly

- July 25th, 2008 at 12:05 am by Kaleb Nation -

I just did my first TwilightGuy magazine interview, and who better to do it with than Entertainment Weekly? Everyone saw their Twilight cover story last week, and one of the writers for the magazine asked me to answer a few questions for their Feedback section in this week’s issue.

Some of my confessions include:

– What have I learned in my research of Twilight?

– Have I become a fan of other Vampire Romances?

amongst other startling (and perhaps shocking!) revelations you can only read about in this week’s Entertainment Weekly 😀

As I haven’t exactly seen the actual interview in print yet (it is released today), if someone happens to get a hold of a copy before me and it says I answered a question with:

Bala! Baloo! I hate Twilight! I (oink)ing hate it all! Snort! Baboo! Bala!

then know that somewhere along the line, my words were edited by an evil magazine printing computer. So everyone get a copy and tell me how you think I did!

As for other news:

– TwilightGuy.com just recently got it’s 940,000th hit! Thanks for coming: one-million will be here in a flash!

– I am almost finished with a new song for my soundtrack. For those of you who enjoyed my music last time, I will have a preview up on my website as soon as I have some of the mastering done. I’ll post a note when it’s up.

– I am considering adding a chat page on this site after August 3. I’ve realized that with the piles of email, I don’t get to talk to everyone in a timely manner, and the chat might be more available for me to pop in. So, if anybody would visit the chat, let me know so I can gauge if it’s worth putting up.

NOTE: Remember: the interview should be in the magazine that is released TODAY, NOT the issue DATED JULY 25 (it will be in the issue with the Dark Knight cover, dated August 1). So check the magazine first! The issue might not be available immediately in all areas.  — Kaleb

Reading Twilight: Chapter 11 (Complications)

- May 29th, 2008 at 12:45 am by Kaleb Nation -

The song for this chapter is Enemies by Ryan Cabrera

I returned from Alaska on Monday only to find that I was locked out of my house. The apartment people had changed the blasted locks on me, and since it was Memorial Day, I had to sit outside for nearly 2 hours waiting for the maintenance guy to get on over there. This was only bitterly humorous, since it came immediately after The Lasagna Burglar got in and raided my freezer. I cry Injustice!: I pay the rent, but he has an easier time getting in my home.

If I wasn’t out-of-my-mind exhausted, I might have thought to start on the next chapter of Twilight while waiting to be let in. But all thoughts were elsewhere (pondering a quick change of profession to get in my home) so it wasn’t until today that I got to it. But finally on to chapter 11!

I would be partially terrified to be in the same room as Bella with a tennis racket. In fact, if I was Coach Clapp, I might rather prefer she be handed a paper plate taped to the end of a paint stick, in an effort to reduce the weight of the object if it became airborne when she goes flying through the air. After Bella leaves, I’m sure she won’t be the only person who is ‘lightheaded and wobbly’.

It didn’t go smoothly. I somehow managed to hit myself in the head with my racket and clip Mike’s shoulder on the same swing. Then, I clunked Michelle on the back of the head, providing a wonderful concussion, which in the same forward motion over-extended my arm, pulling a muscle, which caused me to swing backwards, providing a graceful set of bruises to Marvin. As I jerked forwards again so as to not fall backwards from the motion, I made a circular swing and knocked three other classmates unconscious, the power of this swoosh causing me to backpedal ferociously, knocking wildly into Harry, Jeremy, Megan, Fiona and Paula, knocking them all out cold. Centrifugal force then caused me to go flying again, slamming the end of the racket into George, Jamie, Tyler, Ashley, Christopher, Minnie, Todd, Shamika, Keisha, Zahra, Shonda, Sabrina, Krista, Daronda, Theresa, and Felicia, among others, before I finally landed at the feet of Coach Clapp.

Honest, officer. That’s what happened.”

The Forks Gazette

The Forks Gazette reports

As for Rosalie’s red convertible and all the guys gathered around it, I can vouch that the scene is quite realistic. Every day, there is a red Mustang in pristine, polished condition parked out in front of the apartment. It is like having a princess in Toadtown: almost every other vehicle in the lot is either scrap-metal, half painted, or belongs to the mail carrier. I am certain that whoever owns this car is sitting up in their apartment window with binoculars, grinning wickedly as they watch guys try to let their turning gazes of admiration go unnoticed.

The Red Convertable

Stephenie also keeps referring to a specific, nameless band in these chapters, but I think it’s pretty easy to guess which one she’s thinking of (added 10:32 AM: forgot to mention: I think the band is Linkin Park). She was smart, though, not to say their name in the book. This lets us imagine almost any band we’d like in their place. I’m curious as to what band you people think would fit for something Bella and Edward would both love. As for me, I’d think they might also be a fan of Anberlin too.

On page 232, I saw the word ‘twilight’ for the first time, just before the chapter ended with one of the Blacks appearing and seeing Edward. I’m getting the feeling that they don’t like each other very much, and I’m almost certain I’m going to be hearing more about this in the next few chapters.

——NOTES——

– My five hour college class was so interesting, it flew by and was over in a flash. Not at all what I was expecting. So it obviously isn’t near as loathsome as I thought, and oddly enough my professor looks like a Mel Gibson double. Weird. But the class was awesome and the dread has left me.

– Due to being nearly 3 weeks behind on emails, I have added a FAQ page at the top that will answer some common questions. Sorry if it’s taking me so long to get back! I’ll be replying as soon as I can get to them.

Our friend GJ sent me another email, filled with even more oinking. I am considering posting it. Does anybody want or not want to read more from him?

– Congrats to The Fantastic Twi-Hards youtube for getting listed on Stephenie’s website! I know all too well how it feels to know that Stephenie actually saw something you made. Now, all I need is a link from her site too… though I guess her Myspace mention was golden enough for me 😀 .

Reading Twilight: Chapter 5 (Blood Type)

- May 2nd, 2008 at 4:00 am by Kaleb Nation -

The song for this chapter is The Weather Girl by Shiny Toy Guns:

So I had expected this entire week to be abysmal, given the fact that I have college finals nearly every day on top of my other duties. But the way it happened was quite the opposite. I had my first two done in a flash, my third this morning finished off with 45 minutes to spare, and I actually got to eat lunch today. Oh joy!

But I realized one tiny detail. One more exam. Math.

So in case I am not still in the land of the living after around 2-ish, I wanted to at least bite into the next chapter so I am not left for eternity with all the questions still in my head. On to the fifth!

After hearing that Edward listens to Debussy, I went on Amazon to try a clip of Clair de Lune. I previewed the first one I saw, and was shocked at the horrific sounds which came forth. It sounded like someone was playing the piano and opening and closing a creaky door while splashing in a bathtub at the same time. The squeals were deafening.

Listen To The Pig

Then I realized I was listening to Clair de Lune With Songs Of The Whales, in which they had dubbed whales over the music. Suddenly it made sense and became somewhat relaxing (though I did skip to a whale-free version to get a taste of Edward’s music).

Something in this is another reason I think girls like Edward. He has a sense of old-fashioned class about him. A lot of guys these days think that you have to be pig-headed and macho in order to keep your man card (we saw a perfect example of this yesterday). And some girls fall for it, even if it’s not really what they want: and when girls fall for guys like that, sometimes it tells the gentlemen that they’re doing things wrong and need to become pigheaded like the others.

But here’s Edward Cullen, opening doors for Bella and listening to classical music, and being guy #1. Granted, I don’t think that girls like him specifically for the fact that he listens to classical music, but more so because he has enough class to at least try it and enjoy something other than whatever is popular. He has a side that is classy and that likes the finer things. Edward can march to the beat of a different drummer instead of just always going along with what’s popular.

Marching to the Beat of a Very Different Drummer

Secondly, I became almost as terrified as Bella when they started talking about taking blood samples in class. Me, I’ve never been a good one for shots. In fact, up until around age 15 (okay, 16), I was so terrified of needles that I would have to sit there and play games on the cell phone just to keep my mind partially distracted.

This was not helped by the fact that I always seemed to get the most inexperienced nurses who had previous careers in harpooning, and preferred to use the largest needles possible and simultaneously practice voodoo rituals while poking me. I can perfectly see why Bella’s so faint.

Pg. 98: “She’s just a little faint,” he reassured the startled nurse. “They’re blood typing in Biology.”

The nurse nodded sagely. “There’s always one.”

Edward snickered. “Well this time there were two. But I left Kaleb crumpled on the floor moaning his horrors.”

The nurse nodded sagely. “Hope nobody trips on him.”

——NOTES——

-If you emailed me and haven’t gotten a reply, I’m still getting back with you…right after the final Final.

-My article on Stephenie will be written this weekend and put up by Them sometime after. You’ll know when.

-I was working on a new video but I put it on hold for after I recover from post-exam exhaustion.
