Full text of his message after the jump:

Greetings Twihards, Twifans, Twilight Moms, Team Edward, Team Jacob and Team Switzerland,

I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I’m stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making BREAKING DAWN. As you’ve probably heard, I’ve been given a very warm welcome by Stephenie and Team Summit – who are super-focused, as you know, on getting these movies right.

I’m pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I’ve read BREAKING DAWN twice, rewatched Catherine’s and Chris’s movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine’s notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz’s companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk – a corner of my office is starting to look like Hot Topic. I realize that this barely qualifies me for “newborn” status in the universe you’ve been living inside for a few years now, but a guy’s gotta start somewhere.

Like many of you, I’ve always been slightly obsessed with vampires, dating back to the prime-time series DARK SHADOWS, which I followed avidly as a kid. But that alone hadn’t been enough to get me interested in making a vampire movie, even though my early screenwriting and directing efforts grew out of a great love for horror movies and thrillers. Since making GODS AND MONSTERS thirteen years ago, however, I’ve been yearning for a return to a story with Gothic overtones.

The wonderful world that Stephenie has created has obviously struck a chord with you, and I don’t think it’s difficult to see why. For me, her characters are simultaneously timeless, yet very modern. Rooted in a beautiful, real landscape with a great sense of place, Bella, Edward, Jacob, and the rest of the Forks/La Push menagerie, experience emotions that are primal, and universal: desire, despair, jealousy – and it all comes to fruition in BREAKING DAWN. This is a final chapter in the best sense; not just wide in scope and scale, but emotionally charged and intense throughout.

I’m a huge admirer of the already-iconic Kristen, Robert, and Taylor, and wanted to be the one to work with them as they face the challenges of bringing your beloved characters to the end of their journeys. Really, what could be more fun than that?

Please feel free to ask questions in the comments section below, and I’ll do my best to answer them. I hope that this will be the first of many occasions I’ll get to check in with you as we set to work bringing BREAKING DAWN to the screen. I am excited and grateful to have all of you alongside me for my TWILIGHT journey.

All best,

Bill Condon

P.S. Answer #1: No, there won’t be any musical numbers

  1. Do you think keeping to pg 13 will be hard to do with the birth scene in BD as its not a non mager part of the book?

  2. Hey

Just wanted to wish you good luck. Anything you need to know run it by the fans. I think you have the most difficult task of all with the birth scene, and as you probably know we are all wondering about Isle Esme *cough cough*. Just make it fantastic for us. I know the imagination of what happens there varies from fan to fan and different ages. Its kind of our holy grail *pressure*. Over a million fans with over a million versions of what happened. Just do your best for us.

    Kind regards

    Amanda (London UK)

  3. What are you plans for Renesmee? Is she going to be fully CGI? Half CGI? Or a real child? I'd love to know!

  4. As a true fan we want to keep the birthing scene as true to description as possible. Do you think this will be hard to do with a PG-13 rating? Also…the honeymoon scene…complete “fade to black?”

  5. First, I'd like to ask that you PLEASE do a better job than your predecessors. If you do, then I will love you forevers for at least making the final movie alright. ^^

I also want to know about the birth scene, like some other people have already asked. I'd love to keep it as similar to the book as possible, but I also know that some things have to be a little different to keep it PG-13 (or not, since movie ratings are getting a lot more lax lately). Does this concern you at all?

Thanks, and good luck (you'll probably need it ^^),
    Trisha

  6. I love the fact that he posted this letter to fans! I was REALLY hoping that David Slade would do the same thing when he was hired to do Eclipse (like Chris Weitz did when he was hired for NM.) It's going to be interesting to see how he takes on BD as it is probably the most controversial in the series. (Jacob & Renesmee?) I can't wait though! Especially to see the wedding on the big screen! (Can you imagine Kristen in a wedding dress & Rob being the Edward that's SO DANG HAPPY! At least at the beginning before Jacob crashes the reception & all that happens w/that confrontation & talk of the wedding night.) Anyway so excited!!

  7. He had me at “read BD twice.” It takes that second reading to be familar. (I read the series twice and it wasn't until the second time when I realized I missed a lot of details because I read it so fast the first time) I “liked” BD after the first read but I “loved” it after the second. He's taken the time too really get familiar with the world of Twilight. He's got my vote of confidence!

  8. I'm really excited about it actually and this being my favorite book I can't wait !!!

  9. I'm really excited about it actually and this being my favorite book I can't wait !!!

  10. Is thir going to be a vampire that is a male and has like 15 year old for casting because I really would want that role

  11. Read BD again. You know how Edward is supposedly the most dangerous predator out there as he had so aptly warned Bella in the first movie Twilight? David Slade did a great job in bringing out the dark side of Edward because after all, he is a vampire. As part of Edward's plan to wear Bella out so that she would not bring up the topic of sex again during their honeymoon, you find funny moments like Edward 'flaunted his ability to go without oxygen indefinitely' in front of Bella and how the porpoises just run away when Edward is in the water (titled DISTRACTIONS Page 99). I wonder if you would ever consider slotting this into movie, if you were considering adding a touch of comic into the movie?

  12. i hope bella's character will finally not be so boring and look like she's in pain all the time after she becomes immortal. afterall, she has edward and let's hope she shows some appreciation. the books have shown that more than the movies and i hope we finally see bella smile. i think the critical casting will be reneseme. good luck to you on your “journey”. i am sure you will do an outstanding job. can't wait till november 2011.

  13. I would ask to please do this last movie..Breaking Dawn right…We..the fans have been disappointed in the last two movies..as Bella and Edwards romance jsut keeps dwindling…True..this will be difficult to portray…but I feel the romance..the passion should escalate in this movie…More should even be added to the honeymoon scene..as Bella walking into the water..then waking up the next morning with feathers in her hair jsut does not do what we the fans want to know…It does not have to be R Rated or nudity..but you can make us think they are nude..there should even be a romantic swim scene…The feelings should be there..the emotions..the passion that has been so lacking in the other movies..Kristin jsut never shows emotions..he facial expressions never change..All the wedding should be shown..the preparation with Alice etc etc…I read all the books and i am in my 50's…the last book..i was confident..fianlly we will know if they have sex and how they manage to do it…but it was a big disappointment…The birth scene..we all want to see Edward bite Bella..so as much of that as possible should be left in..maybe not as graphic as the book.i think the parts where Jacob,Seth and leah keep ruinning around The Cullens house should be toned down…and after Bella becomes a vampire..keep the passion between her and Edward, instead of losing it like the book does…I think Breaking dawn should leave us breathless and leave us with a sense of a wish there was more..not the feeling of knowing what was left out and feeling a sense of tradegy that this movie could have been so much more…Please! Do breaking Dawn right! if all this cannot be put in the movie, at least give us an extended version on DVD that shows the passion etc….

  14. I would like to ask Bill Condon….to Please give Kristin/Bella some sort of extra training so she can show emotions on her face..She never changes expression, she never acts scared, she never acts sad, nor never acts happy..She was the most animated in Twilight and still that could have been improved. Robert/Edward needs to be more passionate, too. I too used to watch Dark Shadows..I would try to make it home from school..walking..in time to see it…but usually only got to see the end of it….But..Please…add more to the honeymoon..make it romantic..make it more of touching..kissing etc and when they have sex…show some of it..not nude or anything…but just letting ones brain get absorbed with the chemistry of the two…then when the scene fades off them in bed or whatever..then we the audience feel all that and imagine it…

  15. Bill, I wish you luck. If you can just turn the first portion of that book into something big we've been waiting for it will be a miracle. We want to see a happy Edward & Bella – wedding, honeymoon – all of it. It doesn't matter if they have the child as long as they grow closer after the marriage. No one wants to see them grow further apart. We want the emotions we felt in the other three (well only the end of New Moon). IF this one gets screwed up like Stephenie wrote it – people will never get over it. I'm a grown woman like all of the fans just want to finally see the fairy tale of Edward and his Bella. Please fix this book by giving us what we want in the movie.

  16. Is Breaking Dawn part 2 going to be rated PG 13 or rated R if anybody knows i would appreciate an answer thanks
